To help you plan out when
you need to do what, we have worked out a rought timeline
of when you should be thinking about doing things, from when
to buy your prom dress, to packing your handbag before prom.
3-4 months before:
- Start looking for a dress, and order as soon as you find
the one you want, to make sure they don't run out.
- Begin a fitness routine, exercisine 2 to 3 times a week,
to get your body into shape well before prom.
- Plan out your budget, decide how much you can afford to
spend, and see if you need to get yourself some part-time
work to help you save up.
- Get youself a prom date, if you haven't been asked yet,
pluck up the courage to ask yourself!
- Start deciding with your date and friends what you want
to plan for the night, such as dinner, limousine, after-party
etc.
2 months before
- Order your dress if you haven't done so already.
- Decide how you want your outfit and style to look and match
with your dress, and make appointments for any hair and beauty
treatments such as waxing and tanning, as well as an appointment
to get your dress tailored.
- Make reservations for a restaurant, limousine and hotel
if you have decided on these.
- Continue your exercises, and eat healthily as well. Lots
of fruit and vegetables, and incorporate all the different
food types in moderation, so your body has all it needs, and
is looking it's healthiest.
- Shop for all the accessories you will need for your outfit,
from shoes and jewelry, to gloves and shawls.
- Make yourself a checklist of all the things you need to
remember for prom, check our Checklist
to make sure you don't miss anything.
1 month before
- Order a boutonniere, to give to your date on prom.
- Go through the plans for the night with your date and friends
again to make any necessary adjustments.
- Make sure your date/you has bought prom tickets.
- Start wearing your shoes around the house to break them
in.
2 weeks before
- Check all your appoinments and reservations, get your dress
tailored, get it fitted, and make any necessary adjustments
to shoes and accessories.
- Go to the hairdressers to do a trial run of the hairstyle
you have decided on.
- Experiment with tanning lotion and make-up.
The week before
- Treat your skin, by exfoliating and moisturising. If you
have booked any waxing, tanning, nails or any other beauty
treatments, go to these.
- A couple of days before prom, treat your face to a full
cleanse, and pluck your eyebrows.
- Apply a nourishing treatment to your hair.
Night before
- If you haven't had a wax, shave your leg and armpit hair.
- Wash your hair, to give it time to dry and settle, before
getting it done on prom day.
- Gather all the accessories you will need for the day.
On the day
- Don't panic
- Pick up your dress.
- Apply transparent deodorant, and tanning lotion.
- Go to your hair appointment, putting your dress on beforehand
if it needs to go on over your head.
- Put your dress on, and do your make-up.
- Put on all your accessories, and don't forget the boutonniere.
- Pack your handbag for prom, don't forget to include: some
cash, small sewing kit, make-up essentials, and camera.
- Get some pictures with your date before you set off.
