Everybody is different. All
our bodies come in different shapes and sizes, which is why
we are here to help you find the dress that is right for you,
your body, and will make you look perfect for your prom night.
Here we outline the what dress features look good on different
body types. Now for a brief explanation of each one:
Apple - For those who gain weight primarily around the waistline
Pear - For those who are wider on the bottom and smaller
up top. Small shoulders, medium bust, narrow waist, wider
hips and thighs.
Hourglass - For those who with a curvy figure, and defined
shoulders and hips. Pronounced bust, curvy hips, and narrower
at the waist.
Athletic - For those with a fairly even spread. Wide shoulders,
medium bust, flat waist, narrow hips, defined long legs.
Square- For those who are evenly spread, all round. Even
between shoulders and hips, medium bust, flat waist.
Inverted Pear - For those who are wider up top than bottom.
Wide shoulders, pronounced bust, smaller hips and thighs.
And how to suit each one:
Apple - Choose a dress that has a V-neck , or some deep
neckline that will show your neck and shoulders. Do not get
a dress that is detailed around the middle (belts, ribbons,
etc) or too body hugging. Do however get a dress with an empire
cut, or flared skirt, as this will even out your
figure.
Pear - Choose a dress that has an open neck line, or puffy shoulders to focus attention on your shoulder area.
You can also use bows, ribbon, detail etc. above the waist line, but not below, keeping the bottom of the dress simple, and not too flared.
Hourglass - You want to show off your curvy figure, so
use a low, or strappy cut at the shoulders to show them off,
and a slim body hugging fit around the waist, and don't go for
a puffy skirt as this will attract attention to your hips. Try
and keep the dress simple, to make it as elegant as possible.
Athletic - With this figure, use a low cut, or strappy
dress to show off your shoulders, keep the waist relatively
simple, and then show off your hips and legs. Most skirts will
go, but try out dresses with slits, different cuts, or just
plain short, to get the most out of your figure.
Square - You want a dress that that will give you shape,
so try and keep the shoulder area really simple, use a V-neck/deep
neckline, then steer clear of tight waist hugging dresses, or
with too much detail around the waist, keep it simple. Then
focus attention on your hips and legs: full skirts, with a slit,
or short to show off your legs.
Inverted pear - Keep the top simple and focus on the
hips. Again, strappy tops, or tight sleeves are best. You can
use a body hugging waist, so long as you emphasize the hips
to give you a curvy appearance. Full skirts, or with detail
at the hips are all good.
