Is your prom night aproaching?
Have a problem you don't know what to do about? Well, here
we have gathered some useful pointers to think about before
prom, and what to do in certain prom scenarios.
Things to think about before prom
- How much is it going to cost? Well, see our section
on budgeting
to help you figure out what the costs will add up to, and
how much you will need. Talk with your parents if they are
going to help you out, and find out how much you have already,
so you know how much you need to save and what your budget
is going to be. Then maybe get a part time job to help with
the costs, or decided what expenses you want to cut down on.
You want to make prom night special, but not at the expense
of taking out a big loan, which you will have to spend months
paying off.
- I need a prom date, help? Don't worry (if you are
the guy or the girl), if you haven't dared ask anyone yet/haven't
been asked, just pluck up the courage to find someone you
like, or are good friends with, and ask them! Even if you
are the girl, it is totaly acceptable for the girl to ask
the guy, so don't hang around waiting, ask! If you don't want
to go with anyone, or you lose your prom date for whatever
reason, don't worry, just go with your friends. You'll have
a great time once you are there anyway,
- What do my parents think? It is a good idea to talk
to your parents about prom way in advance so you know how
they feel about it, and you can discuss any issues such as
curfew, wether you can book a hotel room afterwards, how they
feel about your date, etc. They can offer you lots of help
and advice too, and don't forget prom is an important day
for them too, they are seeing their children all grown up.
Things to think about on prom night
- Will I remember it? Contrary to popular belief, most
proms are actually a 'dry' event, meaning that there is no
alcohol involved. Prom is a night to spend with your friends
and you make great memories which will last forever, whilst
sober. Besides, the last thing you want is to spend the night
not being able to stand up, with your head down a toilet bowl.
- What if my date goes funny on me? If you find yourself
in the situation where your date is being pushy with you,
and trying to get you to do something you don't want to do,
just say no! Don't feel pressured to do anything you don't
feel comfortable with. This is your prom night, to celebrate
the end of the year with your friends, to dress up and have
a big bash. There is no way you should be pushed into doing
anything just because it's prom night. It's your prom night,
so you do what you want. If your date or your friends get
real pushy and you don't want to be involved but they aren't
taking no for an answer, then just walk away and call your
parents or a cab to get a lift home, don't be drawn into something
you mihgt regret for the rest of your life.
